Buyer Charges

Buyer charges are additional fees applied to a bidder’s invoice, separate from standard charges like lot price, tax, and buyer’s premium.

Accessing Buyer Charges

  1. Navigate to Auction Setup

  2. Click the B Charges option in the left-hand menu


Buyer Charges Mode

Choose how charges apply per lot:

  1. None – No buyer charges will be applied.

  2. Hierarchical – One charge per lot based on:

    • Inventory #

    • Inventory Type

    • Auction-wide

  3. Cumulative (Most Common) – Multiple charges can stack on a single lot.


Types of Buyer Charges

  1. Charges by Auction

    • Applies the fee to all lots.

  2. Charges by Inventory Type

    • Applies fees to lots based on their inventory type (e.g., all vehicles).

  3. Charges by Inventory #

    • Applies fees to individually selected lots from your catalog.


Setting Up a Buyer Charge

Each method follows a similar process:

  • Click Add

  • Select or name the fee

  • Configure the following settings:

Charge Settings

  • Description – How it will appear on the invoice.

  • Calc Charges By:

    • Each – Based on quantity.

    • Invoice Line Item – Based on hammer price.

    • Including Buyer’s Premium – Includes premium in the calculation.

  • Structure Type:

    • Flat – Fixed dollar/percentage fee.

    • Sliding Scale – One tier applies based on price.

    • Incremental – Multiple tiers stack by price level.

  • Tax Settings:

    • Same as invoice

    • Always Tax Exempt

    • Always Taxable

  • Bid Card Range – Apply to specific bidders (e.g., online-only)

  • Hide Detail on Invoice – Option to display or suppress line-item detail.

  • Exclude If Tax Exempt – Skips fee if item is tax-exempt.


Reporting on Buyer Charges

To view buyer charge reports:

  1. Go to Check Out Bidders

  2. Click Reports

  3. Open Report 51: Detail/Summary – Invoiced Buyer Charges by Auction

Optional:

  • Select “Print Only Subtotals & Totals (Summary)” for a simplified version.
