Ghost USB Ports

How to delete ghost USB ports safely

Updated over a month ago

The RF Modem server and clerking grid will only allow Com Ports 1-12

If you ever come across a Com number higher than 12, you will need to delete ghosted com ports

To do so

  1. Open Device Manager:

    • If you are in the Rf Modem Server or Clerking grid software, click the device manager button

  • Or an alternate method would be to Click the Start button in windows, type devmgmt.msc, and press Enter.

2. Show Hidden Devices:

  • Click on the "View" menu and select "Show hidden devices".

3. Locate the Ghost Devices:

  • Expand the Port Com and LPT menu

  • Ghosted devices will appear with a greyed-out icon.

4. Uninstall the Devices:

  • Right-click on each greyed-out device and select "Uninstall device".

5. Restart Your Computer:

  • After uninstalling, restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
